Postdoctoral Hansen Fellowship in nuclear theory

The FRIB/NSCL Laboratory is seeking a highly qualified individual for a Postdoctoral Hansen Fellowship in nuclear theory, with a specialization in nuclear density functional theory and its applications to nuclear properties. The successful applicant will be expected to work on large-scale studies of rare isotopes and superheavy nuclei using non-relativistic and relativistic energy density functionals, including ground-state properties and fission. Applicants should have previous experience with formal and computational aspects of density functional theory and parallel computing.

The NSCL is a world-leading laboratory for nuclear science and is operated as a national user facility for research with rare isotope beams funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). It is home to forefront experimental and theoretical research programs in nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear chemistry and accelerator science with more than 70 Ph.D. students at any time. FRIB is being established as a user facility and is supported by the Department of Energy Office of Science. When completed in 2022 it will vastly expand the range of rare isotope beams available to the research community and offer tremendous potential for scientific discovery.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics or Applied Engineering
  • Experience with formal and computational aspects of density functional theory
  •     Experience with parallel computing
  •        Knowledgeof FORTRAN
  • Ability to work with export controlled technologies (this is standard language for all postings)


Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of global nuclear properties and fission
  • Experience with statistical methods of uncertainty quantification
